A father has slammed a cleaning contractor after his daughter – who has an intellectual disability and mild cerebral palsy – lost her job after 17 years.

Christine Cousins, 43, was one of five people employed by Nationwide Health and Aged Care Services, who became the collateral damage when a cleaning contract for Green Hills Retirement Village was terminated last month.
After receiving less than three weeks’ notice that they’d lose their jobs on November 11, the employees had to enlist union help before Nationwide offered four of the workers redundancies on Thursday afternoon.
Christine said she was devastated that she had lost her job.
“It’s basically destroyed me,” she said.
“I used to love going to see the residents – they are like part of my family.”
Ms Cousins’ father Graham said Christine had not claimed a sick day in the 17 years she had worked at the retirement village. He said the way the situation had been dealt with was “unconscionable”.
