The captain was caught out on 95, the top score in the team’s total of 267.
While disappointed he couldn’t notch up the 100, Wilson was pleased to come away with 95.
“I would have taken it at the start of the day if someone had offered it to me,” he said.
Josh Callinan (48) and William Fort (35) also made good starts for Norths.
Wilson said he would have liked their score to have been about 20-30 runs higher.
However the skipper said he was confident of a good result on Saturday if the bowlers remain disciplined.
“We’ve just got to bowl the way we know we can,” he said.
Bowler Mitchell Field will return from injury next week, which Wilson said will be a great advantage.
Michael Rees bowled well for Western Suburbs, finishing with 3-55 off 18.
Tom Rumbel did well to claim 2-25 off 7, while Justin Merchant also picked up a double with 2-69 off 9.
Skipper Andrew Trappel and Luke Merchant picked up a wicket each.
Trappel said the team bowled well and took some crucial catches.
Shannon Threlfo picked up his first first-grade catch in just his second game in the top division.
Trappel said if the wicket remained in the same condition next week, it should be a good chase.
Raymond Terrace v Thornton Park
Raymond Terrace finished in a good position on day one of their match against Thornton Park at Jack Collins Oval.
Thornton batted first and declared at 9/157 after 72.5 overs.
The last two games we’ve bowled really well as a unit. We’ve had the ability to build pressure.
- Raymond Terrace captain Nick Savage
The nine wickets were shared fairly evenly across the board for Raymond Terrace.
Young spinner Mitchell Pinch excelled with the ball to pick up 3/48 off 25.3.
Captain Nick Savage came away with good figures to take 2-26 off 16, including five maidens.
William Maher also picked up a double to claim 2-39 off 11.
Shannon Bills and Daniel Flynn contributed a wicket each.
Savage was impressed by the bowlers’ work as a team over the past couple of weeks.
“The last two games we’ve bowled really well as a unit,” he said.
“We’ve had the ability to build pressure.”
Savage said the team fielded well and took their chances when they needed to.
Raymond Terrace got off to a great start with the bat, heading in to day two next week at 0/22.
However, the skipper said the job was only half done, and some good batting partnerships would be needed to close out the match.
