It was announced on Friday that Wests City will host the writers of post-punk anthems like Blister In The Sun, Gone Daddy Gone and Add It Up as part of their regional tour of Australia.
The Milwaukee three-piece have been regular visitors to Australia and toured last March, which included a performance at Bimbadgen’s A Day On The Green with The Hoodoo Gurus and The Sunnyboys. However, the band’s last performance in Newcastle was in 2003 at the then Panthers ClubNova, now Wests City.
Original members Gordon Gano (vocals, guitar) and Brian Ritchie (bass) will be joined by drummer John Sparrow, who replaced Brian Viglione last January.
The Violent Femmes burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut in 1983, which opened with Blister In The Sun, an iconic punk-skiffle anthem about adolescent insecurity. The bass riff and drum line remain one of the most famous in rock music.
Earlier this year The Violent Femmes released their ninth studio album, We Can Do Anything, their first in 16 years.
