Madeline, 16, has cerebral palsy which affects her mobility.
But in February the Thornton teenager and her family will join groups of other people with the condition to summit Australia’s tallest peak.
The Krazy Kosci Klimb is an event organised by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance to raise much needed funds for research and support.
Ms Morley said the climb will be a massive effort for her daughter, but she has faith.
“It’ll be the biggest physical challenge she has faced,” she said.
“Maddie also has a heart condition but we know she’s able to do it.”
Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood.
One-in-two people with cerebral palsy live in chronic pain due to the tightening of their muscles.
For people with cerebral palsy, regular physical activity can mean the difference between living independently and having to rely on a carer.
Maddi’s physiotherapist has been a driving force in the family taking part in the Kosci Klimb event.
The Morley’s hope their fundraising can help provide physiotherapy, equipment and education to benefit those with the condition.
Maddie said she was excited to take it on the climb with her mother and father, 13 year-old brother Connor and grandparents by her side.
“There are checkpoints and support units all the way up,” Ms Morley said.
“There are wheelchairs available for people with less mobility. But Maddie wants to walk it. It’s something we all want to do together.
“And if she’s walking slow – we’re walking slow.”
The Morley family have organised a fundraiser at the Beresfield Bowling Club on the January 8 from 4pm.
The community is invited to come along for an afternoon of music, raffles and activities for the kids – all in the name of raising funds for cerebral palsy research.
