Kurri Weston wicketkeeper Tyler Power smashed a second-last ball six to secure the Warriors a hard-fought win against City United at Robins Oval.
Northern Suburbs young gun Will Fort tuned up for Bradman Cup action this week with an almost run-a-ball 88 to get Norths across the line against Raymond Terrace with an over to spare.
But perhaps the most decisive performance came from Western Suburbs who made short work of Eastern Suburbs’ total of 235 in just 30 overs led by Aaron Mahony (63) and Blake Walmsley (62).
The competition ladder order remains unchanged, however Norths and Kurri Weston are now two games clear and Wests are one win out of the top four.
Easts v Wests
Western Suburbs sent an ominous message to the competition with a batting demolition of Eastern Suburbs at East Maitland Park.
Easts set a respectable target of 9/235 with Jack Peterkin (59) and Joshua Hicks (57) the main contributors, however the Plovers smashed their way to 4/239 in just 30 overs led by half-centuries to Aaron Mahony (63) and Blake Walmsley (62).
Wests skipper Andrew Trappel (14) and Tom Rumbel (32) were left to mop up the target after the Mahony and Walmsley show. Openers Damien Trappel (31) and Michael Rees (22) also made valuable contributions.
Rees and Luke Kealy both got bags of three wickets for Wests, while Dallas Crane took 2-48 for Easts.
Norths v Terrace
Raymond Terrace pushed Northern Suburbs hard, but an almost run-a-ball 88 by Norths young gun Will Fort proved the difference.
Tim Prescott (39) and Lincoln Mills (37) were the other mainstays of the Norths innings as they passed Terrace’s tally of 225 with one wicket and seven balls to spare.
Shannon Bills (60), Bryce Smith (42) Steve Smith (41) scored the bulk of Terrace’s total
Will Maher (4-41) and Nick Savage (3-21) were the chief wicket takes for Terrace. Ben Sayers was Norths’ best with 4-39.
Kurri Weston v City United
A half-century by opener Josh Tuckwell (54) gave Kurri Weston the foundation to chase down City United’s total of 7/200 with just one ball to spare.
Keeper Tyler Power delivered the killer punch with a six after Jack Bennett (31) and Michael Heinrich (36) made good starts. Simon Marshall (2-23) and Daniel Chapple (2-38) were the best with the ball for Kurri Weston.
