The $2,270 machine, the Agilia Volumat MC Syringe Pump, helps deliver drugs at the correct pressures for infants’ small veins.
While delivering too much pressure was rare, clinical nurse educator Karissa MacGregor said it could cause pain and the new machine would eliminate the risk.
The donation was made through the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, which helps provide equipment to hospitals from ‘wish lists’.
The money for the machine was raised at Mortgage Choice’s charity golf day last year.
Humpty Dumpty Foundation founder Paul Francis OAM said Mortgage Choice’s support was “immeasurable”.
Mortgage Choice owner Laurie Anderson said she was a big supporter of Maitland Hospital. “Being a mum and seeing what these guys do, it’s sometimes a thankless job,” she said.
