Saints senior club president Mark Curran, who oversaw the sessions, said several new players to the game came along and showed real interest in taking up the sport.
The Saints are entering their third year and need to boost their squad, which includes players from the Maitland district and Dungog, to take the next step of finals action after narrowly missing out last year.
Curran said AFL experience was not needed just a willingness to learn new skills and have fun along the way.
“We can teach the skills with the right techniques from the start and give players the base to take their game to what level they want,” he said.
“We find women who have played netball and soccer find a good cross-over in skills, but I think one of the most impressive things has been how the girls pick up the skills so quickly.”
The Saints women’s pre-season training starts on Tuesday from 5.30pm and will be run twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday after a break for Australia Day.
