The $3500-to-the-winner feature race is named in honour of Troy Miles, a CFMEU Mount Thorley Warkworth Lodge member who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.
Miles’ workmates rallied to organise a family fun day a the dogs and will raffle a variety of items including a barbecue and an autographed Newcastle Knights jumper to raise money for the cause.
It promises to be an exciting afternoon with many of the CFMEU members bringing their wives and children for a family fun day that includes a jumping castle, face painting and free water ice blocks for the children.
Two Blue wins Summer Cup
It was great to see Maitland regular Charlie Lamb win the Approved Fire Gear Summer Cup final with race favourite Two Blue at Maitland last Thursday.
The Swan Bay trainer appears to have a talented youngster in Two Blue, a son of Barcia Bale and Wiradjuri Girl.
Two Blue has now won five of his 11 starts and has shown a liking for Maitland’s big, one-turn track.
Two Blue started the $2.80 favourite from box eight and sped to the lead going into the bend and pulled away to beat the Ron Bell-trained Tiger Tokaam by 10 lengths in 25.17 seconds. Wayne Boreland’s Smart Donatello was third.
Lamb was all smiles after the win, especially with increased Metro Entry prizemoney for the meeting.
Wild Water is early favourite
The Terry Priest-trained Wild Walter is shaping as the early favourite for this Thursday’s Kurri Hotel/Motel Australia Day Cup final over 400m.
Wild Walter was the fastest of the four heat winners, clocking 22.31s to win the second heat by six and a half lengths from Wayne Boreland’s Tiggerlong Boo (22.77s).

The son of Magic Sprite and Takeover Teddy has now won three of his last four starts at Maitland and his good early speed from the boxes puts him right in the mix.
John Callaughan’s Pastizzi Pitzi won the first heat in 22.53s from Amanda Rayner’s Black County (22.71s). Callaughan secured a second runner in the final when Savanaka Two won the third heat by three quarters of a length in 22.62s from Geoff Grimwood’s Tiny Zesta (22.66s).
