Police were called out to a report that a man had assaulted his wife at Metford.
Police believed the man had access to unlicensed firearms, and later managed to obtain the weapons.
The 29-year-old man was charged for indecent assault and possession of an unauthorised firearm and an unauthorised pistol.
The charges were in relation to a black Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol with magazine and imitation metal rounds and a Beretta-style semi-automatic pistol.
The man was due to appear in Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.
