The NSW champion team recorded the school’s best result ever (fourth place) at the national championships in Adelaide earlier this month.
Now they have received the exciting news that they have earned a wildcard entry to compete at the world championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September.
The Mount View team (comprising Year 12 students Liam Whiteley, Connor Minchinton and Jack Stephenson plus Year 11 student Daniel Lambkin) will collaborate with the third-placed team from the nationals, Instant Transmission (from Launceston College, Tasmania).
The F1 in Schools Technology Challenge is the world’s largest secondary school technology program, with more than 20 million students in 40 countries taking part.
Teams of students design, test and make miniature F1 cars capable of 80 km/h, but they also need leadership, team building, project management, business planning, public speaking, marketing, writing and presentation skills to succeed.
Mount View High has entered the competition since 2004, and Revolution Racing has competed at national level for the past three years.
Principal Desley Pfeffer is thrilled with their success.
“The technical and collaborative effort the team has put in, not to mention sheer hard work, has really paid off this year,” Ms Pfeffer said.
“It’s an extremely engaging challenge, so the competition is fierce at all levels – local, state, national and international.
“The school has been following their progress and is very excited about the trip to Malaysia – we know they will do us proud.”
The students were extremely excited to receive the offer and is grateful for the support they have received from their teachers, parents, sponsors, collaborators, mentors and the community.
“Without this support we would have stood no chance of making it this far,” Liam said.
“With this opportunity comes great responsibility to represent Australia well.”
Revolution Racing is seeking sponsors for its world finals campaign. Contact the school on 4990 2566 if you can help, or find Revolution Racing on Facebook.
