Bree Bailey was named the 2016 Pearson Student of the Year in the art/education category.
Ms Bailey is in her second year of a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Primary/Secondary) at Southern Cross University, which she does by correspondence.
She balances her study with looking after her two young children and working three days a week.
But the busy mum hasn’t let obstacles get in the way of academic success.
She scored 100 per cent in her final mathematics exam last year after giving birth to her daughter in May.
It was Ms Bailey’s first-year mathematics lecturer Dr Christos Markopoulos who nominated her for the Pearson award.
He said Ms Bailey was a highly dedicated student and was thrilled with her award win.
Part of the prize was $1000 cash, which Ms Bailey said would go towards childcare and textbooks.
