Mr Cleary takes over the role from Neil Sutherland, who is retiring from the position after almost eight years of service.
Benhome chairman Bob Geoghegan, who is also a Maitland councillor, announced the change in a memo to staff and residents in January.
Mr Cleary will begin as CEO on April 18.
“Mr Cleary has a wealth of experience in the not for profit sector,” Cr Geoghegan noted in the memo.
“In his previous role as Diocesan General Manager/Registrar of the Anglican Diocese, he was responsible for oversighting a number of schools and the not for profit arms of the Anglican Church.”
The Maitland Benevolent Society runs Benhome – a care facility aimed at enhancing the quality of life of aged people and people with a disability.
