Attempted bowling club theft foiled
On Friday, April 21, a man has entered the cellar area of Maitland City Bowling Club at Rutherford.

Whilst inside the cellar area, the man has spent about 40 minutes removing a several cartons of alcohol and other items, which he loaded into a shopping trolley from the club.
The male was disturbed by staff and fled the scene without the property. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. Inquiries are continuing in relation to identifying the offender.
Drugs seized from Tenambit home
Police attended a residence in Tenambit on Friday, April 21, in relation to cannabis being grown on the property. On attending, police were able to observe a mature cannabis plant in the rear yard of the property. Officers spoke to a 30-year-old male occupant at the address and he then escorted police to the rear yard where officers seized the plant.
The man subsequently provided written consent to search his entire premise, during which police located a further seven cannabis plants, 2.4kg of cannabis leaf and a small amount of methyl amphetamine. The male was issued a field court attendance notice in relation to drug offences and will appear before Maitland Local Court later in May.
Woman charged with handbag theft
On the morning of Thursday, April 20, a 78-year-old female was seated outside the chemist in the Pender Place shopping centre at Maitland when she has noticed her bag had been stolen. The elderly victim notified her carer who, in turn, contacted police. Later that morning investigators attended a parking complaint at the Aldi Supermarket in East Maitland.
There, police spoke with the occupants of the vehicle – a man and a woman. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and found the victim’s handbag from the earlier theft report, behind the driver’s seat of this vehicle. The female occupant was subsequently charged and will appear before Maitland Local Court in May.
Man charged with traffic offences
On Thursday, April 20, police were patrolling the New England Highway at East Maitland, when they observed a red Ford Festiva being driven without registration plates. Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the 58-year-old male driver. The driver confirmed he knew that the vehicle was unregistered and he was driving it to Muswellbrook.
Further inquiries on the man revealed he was also wanted for other offences that allegedly occurred in the Lake Haven area one week earlier, whereby he allegedly took and drove a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner. The man was subsequently arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged. He was granted conditional bail and will appear before Maitland Local Court in May.
