The three-day festival, which coincides with international jazz week, begins on Friday evening with a champagne and supper concert in St James Church Morpeth.
On Saturday acts will bust out the brass in Campbell’s Store, the River Royal Hotel and on the streets.
On Sunday the organs and hymns of a church service at the Uniting Church will be replaced with a jazzy service.
Festival chair John Saunders said Chapel Jazz, now in its ninth year, was born from the ashes of a previous festival that had faded out some years prior.
Mr Saunders said the wild Saturday night at the Commercial Hotel is a personal highlight.
This year prohibition era-esque, all-dancing quintet Smokin Chops will play from 7pm.
“It’s noisy, I’ll tell you that,” Mr Saunders said.
