On Wednesday, the beneficiaries of a deceased estate surrendered five pistols to police. The weapons were replica pistols, but are treated as firearms under the law as they resemble actual firearms. The pistols will now be destroyed. Anyone in possession of firearms can surrender them to police without fear of prosecution.

Drink-driving charge after crash
On Wednesday afternoon, an East Gresford woman was the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a parked car on Durham Road at East Gresford. Police breath-tested the 47-year-old driver, which returned a positive result. She was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station where she recorded a mid-range blood-alcohol reading. Her licence was suspended and she will face Maitland Court.
Lost wallet handed in
On Sunday afternoon, an honest Maitland citizen found a wallet containing money on the footpath at Ken Tubman Drive, Maitland, and brought it to Maitland Police Station to hand it in. Police have made inquiries and will be reuniting wallet and owner in the near future. Well done that honest man. These types of things occur all the time, so it is good to highlight them from time to time.
Train vandalised at Telarah station
About 11.30pm on Tuesday,. a group of men were detected spray-painting a train that was stationary at Telarah Railway Station. Unfortunately, the males escaped before police arrived. Apart from being illegal, the actions of the men were very dangerous, especially bearing in mind the recent death of a graffiti offender in Sydney who tragically died while damaging a train.
Cannabis and ice found in East Maitland
Early last Thursday, police stopped a vehicle in Molly Morgan Drive, East Maitland. After speaking to the occupants, police became suspicious and searched the vehicle. They allegedly found small quantities of the illegal drugs cannabis and methyl amphetamine (commonly known as ice). A 21-year-old female was charged with possessing the drugs and will be attending Maitland Court.
