Councillors voted unanimously at a meeting last night to advertise the 524-page document which outlines some auspicious proposals for the two city locations.
An objective in council’s +10 Community Strategic Plan was to improve recreational access to the Hunter River and its banks from council-owned land.
The draft plan suggests installing a second wharf at Morpeth and a community plaza at Lorn with recreational and picnic facilities.
The 9.5 hectare Lorn site is visually prominent from the Riverwalk adjacent to The Levee and will be even more so with the completion of the Riverlink building.
General manager David Evans said the project was “very visionary” and work would only be implemented as funds became available. He added that council would pursue grant funding.
Community meetings have been held for residents on the proposals.
