Employs.com.au is an online marketplace where people find or post everyday jobs.
Launched at the end of April, the user-friendly platform has been such a success that chief executive Luke Cubis is looking to roll it out in other regions.
“Underemployment is a big issue,” says Mr Cubis. “Underemployed people need an extra income scheme. And there is a big market of everyday tasks.”

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported in March the underemployment figure had reached 1.1 million. The bureau also says Australians carry out 10-20 hours a week of unpaid domestic tasks. With Employs, people can outsource the work.
Whether it is tidying up a yard, typing a letter, or taking someone to an appointment, employs.com.au can connect a willing worker with the person in need. And best of all, employs.com.au is free.
“We match people wanting work with people needing jobs done,” says Mr Cubis. “Basically, we’re an everyday tasks outsourcing website. The tasks could be handyman jobs such as gardening and cleaning, or they might be web design or tutoring..”
Employs.com.au is deliberately a 21st-century solution to getting jobs done quickly and at the right price. Employs.com.au allows the person posting the task to nominate what they are prepared to pay and then choose the best bid.
“It’s a reverse auction,” says Mr Cubis. “People posting can nominate a price. Employs.com.au is not about linking up with tradies. It’s peer to peer. The person responding to a post could be a uni student. You choose the price you’re willing to pay.”
The jobs outsourcing market is placed at $25b and PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates that will increase to $109 billion and 500,000 jobs over next 16 years. And in a move sure to be welcomed by charity groups, not-for-profits, and sporting organisations, employs.com.au also includes a volunteer section.
