Neighbourhood Watch official Bill Hackney said the damage was carried out on Tuesday afternoon with Maitland City Council and police being notified.
The attack comes almost 12 months to the day since Fairfax Media reported on a similar incident.
On July 22 last year vandals ripped up the oval, destroying playing fields that hundreds of junior soccer players were schedule to play on.
Maitland councillor Henry Meskauskas said at the time that the damage made the playing fields too dangerous for weekend sport and called on Maitland City Council to provide cash to fence off the vulnerable park.
He said it was not the first time the oval, near Metford Railway Station, has been hit.
“This is occurring over and over and it has to be stopped,” Cr Meskauskas said.
“I think this is the result of both motorbikes and cars driving onto the oval and doing burnouts. We need a fence or bollards there to stop these vandals,” he said.
Four weeks ago Maitland councillor Ben Whiting announced he had helped obtain $40,000 to secure the park, $28,000 through Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison, the balance from Maitland City Council.
Work has started on the fencing project.
The latest attack came just hours before Metford Soccer Club started training on the site.
“They were able to train on another part of the oval. The damaged areas have been top dressed,” Mr Hackney said.
“The matter has been reported to police and council and hopefully we will see an end to this soon.
“The fence will be a great deterrent,” Mr Hackney said.
