Just under 100 people turned out to watch Pete’s endeavour at Snap Fitness Maitland on Saturday, in which he attempted to break the world record for holding a plank position with 45.4 kilograms on his back.
Pete got tantalisingly close to his goal, falling just 18 seconds short of the record time of four minutes and 41 seconds.
Pete conceded that he was “a bit gutted” following the attempt, but said he would psych himself up for another run at the title in the next few months.
Ahead of the attempt, Pete said he was prompted to raise funds for the mental health organisation Beyond Blue by the struggles some of his mates had faced.
“Over the last 18 months, a few close mates of mine have suffered mental health problems,” Pete said of his fundraising motivation.
Pete’s initial attempt comes after just a few months of training, with the Singleton Council worker confident he can crack the record next time around.
