The weekly region average for Maitland has increased to $123.8 a litre, which is an average price increase of 13.2 cents on last week.
However there are still a few cheaper options in the area that are well-worth the drive.
The cheapest price in the area on Tuesday afternoon was Metro Heddon Greta at $109.9 per litre.
This was followed by:
- Puma Kurri Kurri was $112.9 per litre.
- Shell Kurri Kurri was $113.9 per litre.
- Metro Greta was $114.9 per litre.
- Metro Fuel Bolwarra Heights was $117.9 per litre.
Cessnock is seeing the lowest price averages in the Lower Hunter, with PKs Olde General Store Cessnock retailing at $111.4 per litre and Metro Petroleum Western Cessnock selling for $111.9 per litre.
The Maitland area currently has a lower average price than Sydney, which is 126.3 dollars per litre, meaning that it is entirely possible that prices may increase once again.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s advice to all motorists about getting that best available price for fuel is, “to continue to shop around and reward those retailers offering the best-priced fuel”.
“Fuel prices are generally higher in regional locations due to: a lower level of competition, lower volumes of fuel sold, distance and location factors and less demand for convenience sales that can enable retailers to add to overall profits and keep fuel prices lower.”
