Campbell’s Store co-owner Trevor Richards said he expected a large crowd but was amazed at the number of people who visited, especially on Thursday and Friday.
The windy conditions were not a hindrance, but actually assisted the event in an obscure way, Mr Richards said.
“Morpeth always does best in winter,” he said. “Where else can you go when its that cold?”
People from as far away as Adelaide, Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast have already flocked to the quirky festival, which runs until August 27.
Mr Richards said the fact it was the last ever event was definitely a draw card.
He said the reason behind finishing the annual festival was that decorative teapots had become harder to procure. “It just seemed time to look at something different,” he said.
Mr Richards said plans were in the works for an antique festival to replace the teapot gala, possibly in August 2019.
