A 50-year-old Maitland woman was issued a criminal infringement notice for stealing on on Thursday afternoon. Police allege the woman stole $50 worth of clothes from a central Maitland store on Wednesday August 30. The incident was captured on CCTV and police inquires led to the woman’s arrest. As well as receiving a $300 fine the woman was banned from the store for 12 months.

Speeding while unlicensed
At lunchtime on Sunday, Maitland Highway Patrol stopped a 21-year-old female driver whom they allege was driving in excess of 20km/h over the speed limit on the New England Highway, Beresfield. When asked to produce her licence it was found the woman was banned from driving until October 2017. She will now be attending Maitland Court.
Stolen garden items
Thieves stole a terracotta birdbath and two large bowl shaped garden pots containing white geraniums from a front garden in Somerset Drive, Thornton on Saturday night. Police are hoping the community may be able to offer assistance the matter. P-plate driver drink driving
Highway Patrol police stopped an 18-year-old motorist in Lawes St, East Maitland at 9.45pm Saturday after he was allegedly seen to drive through a stop sign without stopping. The young man was breath tested and subsequently found to have nearly three times the legal alcohol level in his blood of a fully licensed driver. P-plate drivers must have no alcohol in their blood while driving. The young man had his licence suspended and he will be attending Maitland Court. Fortunately no person was injured in this driving incident.
Ice found at Morpeth
Police spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in Swan Street, Morpeth in the early hours of Saturday morning. Police will allege they spoke to the two occupants and searched the vehicle, locating a small quantity of the illegal drug methyl amphetamine (ice) and a small amount of cannabis. A 25-year-old man will now be attending court for possessing ice and a 22-year-old woman received a cannabis caution.
