The summer snap will be short-lived however, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting plummeting temperatures on Thursday and even a chance of snow at Barrington Tops.
The strange spring time weather is caused by a high pressure system centred over the northwestern Tasman Sea.
It will direct warm northerly winds over most of the state for the next few days as a series of cold fronts approach from the west. The first of these fronts is expected to skim across the state's south late Tuesday, while a more significant front will bring a vigorous cool change during Wednesday and Thursday.

- Newcastle can expect a top of 31 degrees on Wednesday, followed by minimum temperatures of 11 and the chance of showers on Thursday.
- Dungog and the Barrington Tops can expect 19 degrees on Tuesday which will drop to a minimum temperature of 2 degrees by Thursday, with a chance of snow.
- Maitland, Singleton and Cessnock residents can expect a windy day and a top of 34 on Wednesday, with a drop in temperature down to 20 degrees.
- Scone and Muswellbrook are set for a high of 34 degrees, followed by showers and temperatures in the late teens on Wednesday.
