The rumble and hum of hundreds of gutsy muscle cars descended on Maitland over the weekend for the annual Toranafest, with more than $20m worth of talent taking pride of place at Maitland Park.
Hunter Valley Torana Club president Pete Morris said “it looks like Maitland is the new home of Toranafest” after the record-breaking weekend.
Mr Morris said the 428 Toranas that attended the 2017 event “smashed” the previous record of 357 vehicles. He predicted that more than 10,000 people walked through Maitland Park throughout Saturday and Sunday, while a cruise out to Heddon Greta attracted bystanders who lined the roads.
“Maitland has really turned it on and supported us,” Mr Morris said.
