Soper-Lawler’s Falcons defeated perennial Queensland state league power Redcliffe Dolphins 40-14 in the preliminary final to book their place against minor premiers PNG at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.
Former Picker and Newcastle Knights under-20 and reserves player Soper-Lawler has had an outstanding season with the Falcons, who are a feeder club for the Melbourne Storm.
His good form has been rewarded with a spot at the Storm’s summer training and the chance to earn a spot on Melbourne’s roster.
Soper-Lawler’s father Pickers president Frank Lawler said PNG would be favourites, but the Falcons had momentum after progressing from the elimination final. The winner will play the NSW Cup premiers at the NRL grand final.
