The Mercury reported in July that the Department of Education had planned major works at the school to deliver 10 new classrooms in replace of demountables.

But those classrooms will not include air-conditioning unless it is self-funded because the school was not hot enough to qualify for department-funded cooling.

While the P&C has not been given a specific date or dollar figure on the air-conditioning, estimates have left them about $25,000 short with about a month to raise the money.

P&C president Beck Croese said the cause affected more than just current children and urged businesses and the wider community to get involved.

“We all need to be a part of this,” she said.

She said people who heard the story were shocked and wanted to help out, but said it was hard to ask the same people to reach into their pockets.

Ms Croese said while schools never used to have air-conditioning, there were record temperatures set each year and higher expectations on students.

“I can’t see how children can learn in the heat,” she said.

Ms Croese said the P&C were excited to be so close to their goal, but needed help to reach the final figure.

The committee has reached out to the business community to help them over the line.

Corporate sponsorships range from $500 to $3,000, with the most expensive option including classroom naming rights.
