November 19 is the target date for reopening to the public, and the museum’s volunteers will be working hard to achieve this goal.
Acting upon the advice of environmental consultants, Cessnock City Council is undertaking remediation works.
“We appreciate the efforts of council and its officers,” museum chairman Peter Meddows said.
“The museum plans to gradually rehabilitate its railway line, depending upon the availability of resources and labour, with the aim of reintroducing heritage train services, initially between the museum platform and Leggetts Drive along a branch line.
“Restoration of the main line between Richmond Main and Pelaw Main must await repairs to a bridge damaged in the September fire.”
The museum will issue a public announcement on progress closer to the date. Regular updates are also posted to the Richmond Vale Railway Museum Facebook page.
