The action will take place in and around the Cessnock TAFE grounds on Sunday, November 5.
Organised by Cessnock Motorcycle Club, the grand prix has attracted crowds of up to 10,000 people in previous years.
The 2017 event was launched at major sponsor Cessnock Mitsubishi on Tuesday.
Sixty-six teams have signed up to ride in this year’s event, with six spots still available.
Heats will start at 9am and two additional races have been added to this year’s program – the Ray White Cessnock Cup (featuring the riders who who do not qualify for the grand prix), and a celebrity race (including 2NUR-FM’s Todd Sergeant, Newcastle Knights legend Matt Gidley and Motorcycle GP legend Kevin Magee to name a few).
The program will conclude with the grand prix from 3pm to 5pm.
The Cessnock Motorcycle Club is also well into the planning stages for hosting the Australian 4-Day Enduro in April 2018.
The event was founded by the Cessnock club under the direction of the late John Hall in 1978 and returns to its hometown for the 40th anniversary.
The club is expecting about 350 riders plus support crew to attend.
