Surviving IS: Stories from Mosul by Michael Bachelard and photographer Kate Geraghty was nominated in the feature writing (under 4000 words) and coverage of a major news event. Fairfax Media's multimedia team was also nominated in the production category.
Fairfax Media's cartoonists scooped up all the Walkley Award nominations in the cartoon category.
The Age's Matt Golding was recognised for "The Sensible Centre", David Pope from The Canberra Times got a nod for "Murray-Darling Nation" and The Sydney Morning Herald's Cathy Wilcox for "Low-cost housing, London".
Fairfax Media's Adele Ferguson and Mario Christodoulou were nominated in the business journalism category for their series of exposes about Domino's Pizza.
Ferguson was also nominated in the investigative journalism category, with colleagues Sarah Danckert and Klaus Toft for "The Retirement Racket".
The multimedia work The tragedy of Aviana by reporter Kate Aubusson and Geraghty was also nominated for feature writing (under 4000 words)
Bachelard and Nick McKenzie were nominated in the sports journalism category for their coverage of the Australian Olympic Committee bullying crisis.
The Newcastle Herald's Carrie Fellner was recognised in the community or regional affairs category for her investigation into a cluster of cancer cases on Cabbage Tree Road in Williamtown
Her colleague Joanne McCarthy won nominations for public service journalism and
The Age's Miki Perkins was nominated in the print category for a series of stories on a teenage rape victim.
Josh Gordon, Richard Willingham and Benjamin Preiss from The Age have been nominated for scoop of the year for their coverage of the expenses scandal involving top Victorian politicians.
