Quite a few students from Telarah, Rutherford and Lochinvar public schools were looking at the summer game with a new found enthusiasm after Thursday’s Milo T20 Blast Cup at McKeachie’s Oval.
The music was pumping as the boys and girls were introduced to the game in an action-packed, fun-filled program run by Western Suburbs Cricket Club, the schools and NSW Cricket.
Wests will be running a Milo T20 Blast centre in term one of the school next year and from the enthusiasm of the children on Thursday it should be an outstanding success.
Neil MacDonald from NSW Cricket said Milo T20 Blast was a transition game from Milo Cricket for four to eight-year-olds and club junior cricket programs.
MacDonal said centres normally ran after school programs during the week with boys and girls from eight to 12 involved.
“The emphasis is on fun, learning the skills and burning up as much energy as the kids can,” he said.
“Each player gets a chance to bat, bowl and field in a different position and when they are waiting to bat they are involved in fun skill sessions.
“Kids are in teams of similar abilities and there’s no pressure on anyone to perform.
“Batsman get a free hit from a tee if they are bowled a wide, so the expectation is that everyone takes a while to get the ball on the pitch.”
MacDonald said any parents interested in enrolling their children in one of the various junior cricket programs available including Milo Cricket, Milo T20 Blast, Kookaburra Cricket or junior cricket should head to the Playcricket.com.au website or check their local club’s Facebook page.
