He has performed in Cessnock a few times now, and the first thing that comes to his mind about the town is that it has “many big drains”.
It’s these sorts of charming observations on the absurdities of everyday life that Jimeoin has become well-known for in his 20-odd years on the stand-up comedy circuit.
His new show, titled Renonsense Man, promises much of the same.
Born in London and raised in Northern Ireland, Jimeoin arrived in Australia in 1988 and rose to prominence in 1994 with his self-titled show on the Seven network.
He is a regular on Australian television, having appeared on several top variety and comedy programs including Thank God You’re Here, Spicks and Specks and Talkin about Your Generation, and has also performed on top-rating international programs including Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
He has written and starred in two feature films, The Craic (1999) and The Extra (2005).
A prolific writer with an exceptional audience rapport, he has toured to great acclaim everywhere from New York to New Zealand, Aspen to Amsterdam, the Middle East to the Far East.
He regularly tours the UK and Ireland, is a regular invitee to Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival and is both an alumni and one of the biggest comedy acts each year at the world's biggest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
He has toured every corner of his adopted home country, as shown in his 2008 TV series Jimeoin Down Under.
The 51-year-old is not one to sit still in his career for long – he is forever doing gigs, trying new things and, basically, just having a laugh.
“I’m no good at anything else, I’ve backed myself into a corner here,” he says in typical self-deprecating style.
“If I did stop, what would I do?”
