“We really don’t know what to do with the space so I would like to throw the suggestions open to the people,” Mrs Purdon said.
She said some people have suggested a mural, others a raised deck with tables and chairs so people can take advantage of the river view.
The 100-year-old tree came down last week after it was causing structural damage and producing leaf litter.
Diners at the cafe told Fairfax Media last week they were sad to see the tree had gone but said they would remain loyal to the business.
Some customers said they loved the tree but it’s removal had made the cafe environment roomy and brighter.
People can list their suggestions via the comments field under the story on our website or on our Facebook page.
“It’s going to be an uphill battle, particularly with summer almost here and the shade gone but we’re staying positive,” Mrs Purdon said.
