A former member of the Gladiators outlaw motorcycle gang has been assaulted at his Rutherford home in what police believe was a gang-related offence.

The 59-year-old man was in bed at the Wollombi Road home about 9pm Friday, when two men entered the house.
Police said the man was punched in the head a number of times, which caused head and facial injuries.
The pair then fled the scene.
Police and ambulance were called to the home. Paramedics transported the man to Maitland Hospital while police established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the incident.
