You’d have to look far and wide to find bigger Holden fans than East Maitland’s Jodie and Rodney Witt.

The passionate duo’s long-time allegiance to the racing brand will see them watch this weekend’s Newcastle 500 as special guests of Holden in their corporate box.
And nothing highlights their zeal for Holden like their purchases earlier this year – matching his and her limited edition SSV Redline Motorsports, of which there are only 1200 in Australia.
Making the Motorsports models even more unique was the fact that they were among the last vehicles to roll off the production line in Australia before Holden ceased production in the country in October.
“It’s like driving a little bit of history,” Rodney explains.
“It’s a bit special having the last few cars made in Australia by Holden.”
The purchases saw Maitland’s Heritage Holden invite the pair to watch the inaugural Newcastle race from the corporate box as a special guest, something Rodney said he was “super pumped” about.
“I’m really excited about it. It’s huge,” he said.
Funnily enough, Rodney can’t pinpoint exactly where his passion started.
“I’ve always been a Holden fan, I have no idea why,” he explained.
“I started watching Bathurst at age five and the rest is history.”
It’s a fervour that easily spread to wife Jodie, who said her unique Motorsport had been the starter of many conversations with intrigued strangers.
“I don’t know how many people have stopped to talk to me about my car,” Jodie said.
And it’s easy to see why. The eye-catching pieces are made specifically to order, down to the number plates, which start with the letters KOM – standing for King Of the Mountain, a tribute to long-time Holden racing star Peter Brock.
Such is the care they take with them, Rodney keeps his Motorsport covered in the shed, only bringing it out for “special occasions” every few weeks.
A standard clean of the vehicle goes as far removing individual tyres and cleaning the insides of the rim.
“He takes pretty good care of them," Jodie laughed.
Decades of service make it hard for Rodney to pick out his most memorable Holden moments - “there’s been so many highs and lows that you remember” – but without question he says the “saddest moment” was when they closed down production in Australia.
However, he’s confident that the best memories could be racing around the corner this weekend.
“It’s going to be huge, I’m so excited,” he said.
