As Christmas quickly approaches it’s easy to get caught up in all the things you need to buy.

That’s why Miss Teen Galaxy Australia 2017 Ruby Adamson, of Rutherford, is gathering supplies for the less fortunate.

“I think we all tend to forget how lucky we are to have the things we have and we take it for granted,” she said.

It really doesn't take much to lend a hand and you really don't know how that will lift somebody who is living without or doing it hard.”

She has gathered toys for the Bikers for Kids Newcastle Toy Run to help raise money for disadvantaged families and provide toys for kids that would miss out on a Christmas present.

She arrived at the run on Sunday with a big bag of toys including a one-metre-tall teddy bear and several other smaller items like Playdough sets, colouring books and puzzles etc.

She has also collected items for Homeless Donations NSW which provides hygiene, shelter, first aid and food to people in need across the Hunter and Central Coast.

“I think the biggest thing I have learnt is that even though sometimes it doesn't feel like much and I wish I had more to give, I do know that little things can make a big difference so no matter how small and no mater what you can do it is still better than doing nothing,” she said.

“A lot of people see teens as lazy, un-involved and self absorbed and I don't think that in necessarily true.

“The more people you meet the more you grow as a person and I think it is very important to step outside your age group and even your friend group sometimes as this really helps you grow as a person.

“I have had the opportunity to meet many incredible people who work selflessly to make the lives of those in need a little brighter and I believe we all need lessons in life aside form our piers at times.”

Ruby thanked her supporters for helping to make the charity drive a success.

“I have a group of people that continually support my efforts in assisting in charity drives but obviously I would love as many donations as possible to assist those in need,” she said.
