A Telarah house has been extensively damaged in what police are treating as a suspiciously-lit fire.
The Simpsons Lane home erupted in flames about 8pm on Sunday night.
Police were first on scene. When they arrived the home was well alight and an occupant was trying to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose.
Fire and Rescue crews arrived shortly after and managed to control the fire and save a neighbouring property.
The occupant of the home was conveyed by ambulance to Maitland Hospital with smoke inhalation.
Police established a crime scene. Forensic investigations led officers to believe the incident was a possible arson offence.
Investigations are continuing. If anyone has information about the incident they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
