Jock Vivers took 5-14 from 7.4 overs to end Norths innings which had been anchored by a fine half century by Jackson Spohr.
Restricting City’s batsmen will be difficult and they finished day one on 0/28 with Ewan Mowbray on 13 and Theo Atkins on 10.
Eastern Suburbs are in command of their under-16 clash against Raymond Terrace declaring on 6/165 and then grabbing four quick wickets to leave Terrace at 4/29 at stumps on day one.
The Griffins’ top five all got starts, but young gun Matthew Lynch took advantage to make 57 and then backed it up taking 3-7. Lachlan Towns made 25, Jesse Budden 24 and Will Stoneman was 19 not out.
