The Mercury reported last Monday that three bags full of donations set to go to the Salvation Army were stolen from outside the church on December 3.
Since the story was published, parishioner Judy Haigh said she had been “overwhelmed” by donations from people wanting to help.
A Kurri Kurri business that Ms Haigh said she didn’t even know the name of donated $600 cash, while parishioners also dug deep to replace the stolen goods.
One of the missing bags even turned up at another East Maitland church on Tuesday.
“I started to cry, I was just so overwhelmed with the generosity,” Ms Haigh said. “I could hardly speak.
“There are some good people out there.”
All of the donations will be given straight to the Salvation Army.
