LESS than a month after Corey Lamb met his idol and former World No.1 Jason Day at the Australian Open, the promising Branxton teenager etched his name on the same trophy as the US PGA-winner.

Lamb won a sudden-death play-off with West Australian Jordan Jung to win the Australian All-Schools individual stroke championships in Adelaide.
Day won the same title in 2003. Geoff Ogilvy (1994), Steve Elkington (1980) and Hunter players Nick Flanagan and (2001) and Leigh McKechnie (1991) are also previous winners.
Lamb set up the victory at The Grange with a five-under 67 in the morning.
He posted a three-over 75 as the “wind got up” in the afternoon to finish alongside Lung at two under.
They squared the first play-off hole before Lamb made par at the second to win.
“It is my biggest win by a long way,” the 16-year-old St Joseph’s, Lochinvar, student said.
“I holed a few putts and was pretty consistent in the morning.
“The wind got up a fair bit in the afternoon and the scoring was tougher.
“To be on the same trophy as Jason Day is pretty awesome. I look up to him and managed to get a picture with him at the Australian open.”
NSW took gold in the teams stroke event run in conjunction with the individual. However, they finished fourth in the five-round matchplay event.
Lamb’s win was recognised with an “outstanding achievement” award at the Jack Newton Junior Golf presentation ceremony at Pymble Golf Club on Monday.
The right-hander, who lives a nine-iron from Branxton Golf Course, is a member of the JNJG development squad.
He has received a scholarship from Concord Golf Club and hopes to feature in their major metropolitan pennants and Eric Apperly Shield teams next year.
Next is the JNGF Harvey Norman Week of golf at Royal Canberra in January followed by the South Australian Junior Masters and NSW Amateur.
“Hopefully I can make a strong start to the year,” Lamb said.
“They select a NSW junior team for an interstate series in April, which is definitely a goal.”
Lamb was one of four Hunter players to receive an JNJG award.
Samuel Barnes was named the Newcastle and Central Coast Junior on the Move.
Harry Atkinson, from Kurri Kurri, received an outstanding achievement for winning the PSSA School championship and Josh Robarbs was the Titleist (Newcastle) regional academy athlete of the year.
