Council voted on Tuesday in favour of applying for funds from the NSW Government’s regional growth fund for major infrastructure works in Thornton.
The project, if successful, would include funding for works including:
- Upgrades to the Weakleys and Glenwood Drive Roundabout
- Upgrades to Glenwood Drive between Weakleys Drive and Thornton Road
- Upgrade of Thornton Road to four lanes north of Glenwood Drive
- Installation of traffic signals at the Thornton Road intersections at Glenwood Drive and Huntingdale Drive
- A bridge duplication over the railway on Thornton Road
The total value of the work would be $51m. Maitland Council will make the move with an eye on improving both residential and business access throughout the growing suburb.
A report will be provided to council once the result of the application is known.
