It’s no accident – it’s a specific tactic by council aimed at making the quiet corners of central Maitland eye-catching in their own right.
The laneway next to the central Maitland NAB is one of the latest areas to get a makeover, with planter boxes, new seating and decorative flora strung up.
It’s the latest in a string of renewal projects done in town as part of the Activate Maitland strategy undertaken by council.
The initiative aims to create a sense of place, encourage social connections, improve safety and bring life to the streets by refurbishing areas including laneways, parks and gateways.
The project, under the guidance of council’s place activation guru Amber Hermann, also includes current initiatives like Street Eats and Street Art.
