Oh Really and Henwood won back-to-back races for Morgan and his father, Paul, who trains and owns the mares, at Newcastle on Friday night. It took Dan’s driving wins for the season to 12.
Oh Really ($5.80), a six-year-old, came with a swooping run to score a half-head win and her first since February. It took her to a C2 rating, allowing the Morgans to nominate her for Inter City Pace heats at Maitland this Saturday night.
Dan, though, said they were undecided about taking her to the series, where they may not have a runner.
“We had Sweet Ava, hoping she’d make it, but when she won at Menangle she was out of the grade and unfortunately she broke down,” he said. “She’s off to the breeding barn now and I’m sure she’ll do a good job there.”
As for Oh Really, Morgan said: “She went really good. Her last couple of runs have been really good and we’ve been happy with how she’s going. It suited her with the tempo up front, they went hard early and it was a slow run home, but she made up a lot of ground.”
Henwood, a four-year-old, led all the way for a three-metre win at $3.90 and a second victory in eight starts.
“With the good draw, she found the lead easy and got away with a couple of cheap sectionals, then sprinted away,” Morgan said. “She won quite easily and had a bit left in the tank.
“We’re hoping she can turn into a nice mare and make it up in the grades.”
