After three decades of providing for tired and hungry motorists, the team served their last group of travellers.
Since its establishment 30 years ago, the service – operated by Morisset Lions Club – has been at the Weakleys Drive and John Renshaw Drive intersection for 23 years.
Now, the rest area must go, to make way for upgrades to the M1 Pacific Motorway at the location.
The work, due for completion in 2019, will include replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights.
Beresfield Driver Reviver coordinator Arthur Tumeth said the news wasn’t well received when it was announced 12 months ago.
“We had a lot of meetings with the RMS (Roads and Maritime Services) over this,” Mr Tumeth said.
“We spent a year running around looking at [alternative] sites. We looked absolutely everywhere but we couldn’t find a suitable site.
“It’s sad to see it go.”
