Last year’s inaugural event was an outstanding success laying claim first up to being the the nation’s biggest single speedway sidecar event.
The event was initiated by world and Australian champion Darrin Treloar in association with the Kurri Kurri Speedway Club as a tribute to Darrin’s father who was a top class speedway sidecar rider himself.
The Chivo’s Tyres Roll the Dice GT Cup 2 will feature 16 of Australia’s best sidecar competitors in 20 qualifying heats culminating in a B and A Final as well as events for junior sidecars, senior support sidecars, conventional sidecars and low line sidecars.
“We received some very positive feedback after last year’s event,” Kurri Kurri Speedway Club president Peter Campton said.
“Our club is always keen to support sidecar racing and we are very happy to work with Darrin [Treloar] to present this meeting.”
Darrin Treloar is unquestionably Australia’s most successful speedway sidecar rider. He is an FIM World Speedway Sidecar Champion, a nine time Australian Speedway Sidecar Champion and holds multiple state sidecar championships.
Last year’s event produced a major upset when the local pairing of Hayden Bond and passenger Brady Cox turned in a powerful performance to be the inaugural GT Cup winners.
The pair won three of their five qualifying heat races, taking them straight into the A Final which they won ahead of Sydney’s Shane Hudson and Eli Wright.
Treloar will be determined to turn around his disappointing result from last year when he failed to make the finals.
He is campaigning both a new bike and a new passenger this year and has been almost unbeatable in the events he has contested around Australia.
New Zealand star Andrew Buchanan has continued his great form in Australia this year. His passenger is Denny Cox from Lake Macquarie and the pair has set about stamping themselves as a leading combination.
The pair are currently Australia No.2, FIM Oceania No.2 and FIM World No.3. They will be in the Roll the Dice GT Cup 2.
Evergreen pair Grant Bond and Glen Cox will compete in the event as they move into their 23rd year of competitive speedway sidecar racing.
Riders from Queensland, Victoria and South Australia have entered for the main event.
Kurri Kurri Speedway gates will open at 3pm and racing is scheduled to start at 6.30pm.
Tickets are $70 family (two adults, three children 10-15), $30 adult 16+, $20 concession, chidren 10-15 $5, children under-10 free.
