Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) female champion Ronda Rousey has similarly inspired Thornton girl Madison Clarke.
A green belt judo champion, Madison was presented with a NSW Premier's award for Sports by Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison last Friday.
Madison’s recognition comes after a big 2017 for the 11-year-old, highlighted by winning the Judo NSW coaches award for junior girls.
A student of the Kido Mingara Judo Academy at Tuggerah, Madison turned to judo two years ago after competing in Brazilian jujitsu and taekwondo, when her sporting idol Rousey took on judo.
Madison's quick ascent in the sport has taken her around the state, competing in tournaments in Sydney, Coffs Harbour and the Central Coast, as well as at interstate events in Canberra and the Gold Coast.
The up-and-comer has her sights set on lofty goals, including competing at the Olympics and fighting in the UFC.
Madison’s dedication is matched by enthusiastic support from her family, all keen martial artists in their own right.
Casey, Madison's younger brother, is also a competition competitor and has already amassed an impressive 100 medals, while her father is a judo practitioner as well.
