Not exactly “mad dogs and Englishmen” stuff, but hot nonetheless. And it signalled the start of what is going to be a very hot week ahead for Hunter residents.
The Bureau of Meteorology tells us that today’s temperature will be the week’s hottest – a sizzling 41C –followed by a run of very hot days.
The forecast is for temperatures to reach 39C on Tuesday, 36C on both Wednesday and Thursday and 35C on Friday before some cooler relief kicks in.
Fortunately, we were spared any immediate bushfire problems as there was a total fire ban in place over the weekend amid concerns over the severe conditions.
While we take our hats off to the committed cricketers around town who donned the sunscreen and did their bit, 10-year-old twins Aidan and Liam Dawes of Paxton thought Maitland Pool was a better option.
