Resuming on 2-101 and needing 110 runs for victory against Eastern Suburbs, Mahony added 71 to his first-day score to finish on 122 as Wests posted 4/212 off 62.4 overs.
“i haven’t seen the outfield so fast at Coronation. I blocked a spinner and it went for four,” Mahony said of his innings.
Wests co-captain Mitchell Fisher said Mahony’s innings was outstanding and he received good support on day two from Shannon Threlfo after Tom Irwin had made 49 at the top of the order on day one.
Fisher said given the batting-friendly nature of the ground, the Plovers attack had done a terrific job to dismiss Easts for 210 on day one of the game.
Luke Kealy led the attack with three wickets and Justin Lantry picked up 2-0 from three balls to finish off the innings.
“The win keeps us in third place and we’ve got a couple of hard games coming up starting with Norths in a one-dayer next week,” Griffiths said.
“After a bit of a patchy start it’s starting to come together, but you have to be at your best each week.”
