That was clearly evident when he swept to victory in the Garry Treloar Roll the Dice #2 at Kurri Kurri Speedway on Saturday night.
A multi-international, national and state champion himself, Treloar and passenger Jesse Headland from South Australia took on the field of local and interstate competitors that also comprised international, national and state championships in an event to honour Darrin’s father.
“Last year’s result wasn’t so much a disappointment for me, it was frustrating,” Treloar said at the victory dais.
”I tried just as hard as last year as I did tonight, but my team stayed focused on the little things and it all came together for us.”
Treloar lost only one race in the event – a qualifying heat where he finished second to New Zealand international Andrew Buchanan.
Treloar and Buchanan qualified directly to the GT Cup A Final as did NSW’s Ricky Howes.
Queensland’s Tyler Moon came with a blistering late charge in his qualifying heats to transfer to the B Final.
He had only amassed three points from his first three races, but then won both of his last two rides, making it through to the B Final. He then backed that up with a remarkable ride in the B Final.
He was last going into the first corner but performed an aggressive pass on South Australia’s Aaron Hartwig in the last lap to book his spot in the A Final.
Treloar won the start in the GT Cup decider and despite a huge effort by Ricky Howes to breach the gap, went on to score a determined victory. Howes finished second and Buchanan was third.
Two incidents resulted in competitors being taken to John Hunter hospital.
Veteran sidecar rider Greg Griffiths was concussed and suffered a suspected broken nose when he and passenger Nathan McFadden were propelled high in to the air after clipping the fence near the start finish line.
Cam Bell, passenger for Shane Hudson, suffered a suspected broken collarbone and shoulder injury when the pair crashed heavily to the track during a heat.
