The under-12 IDCA team will also play their final preliminary round against NWS Hurricanes on Sunday and a win will see them finish in the top four.
Maitland teams are also in action in the final round of the Hunter Macquarie Generation junior competition and wins will confirm their spots in the under-12, under-14 and under-16 finals.
Maitland junior representative cricket coach Matt Trappel said it had been an amazing year at both junior and senior level for Maitland cricket and praised all the senior players who had given their time to coach junior teams.
Trappel said the Maitland Junior Cricket Association’s decision to enter the IDCA competition for the first time and to run two junior teams at each level had been vindicated.
“The commitment of first grade players involved in coaching the junior teams has been fantastic and the young players have flourished as a result,” he said.
“Everyone involved from the coaches through to the parents have given so much support to the team and they have matched it with tremendous enthusiasm and great results.
“The future of Maitland cricket is looking very bright and when you consider that several members of the senior representative teams have just come out of the junior ranks it is even more impressive.”
The under-16 team finished top of the ladder, despite their narrow loss on the weekend in the final over of play, and will host Penrith in the final at Lorn Park from 10am. The winner will be presented with the Andrew Blamey Cup.
The under-14s finished second in the preliminary rounds and will travel to Sydney to play NWS Hurricanes for the Anthony Neale Cup .
