Lawler said while an agreement had not been reached council was fully aware and sympathetic to the club’s financial position after a tough 18 months at Coronation Oval.
There have been suggestions it would cost the Pickers $18,000 [up from $5000] to use the sportsground and they faced a loss of more than $40,000 in revenue if council leases the canteen to outside operators.
“I think the council officers understand the pressures a rise in ground fees of the order suggested would place on us,” Lawler said.
“They also understand how important the revenue from the canteen is to our survival.
“There were no guarantees, but the talks were very positive and we’ll meet again over the next week or two to advance things.”
